The Conference intends to promote an active dialogue among archaeometallurgy researchers with different specialisations and backgrounds, to create an opportunity to discuss the study of ancient metallurgical processes, and conservation science, and to discuss the application of modern metallurgical experimental methods and techniques to investigate, identify and date ancient artefacts. A further purpose is also that of creating an interaction between institutions and researchers, to facilitate the integration of different approaches and finally to promote contacts and collaborations between scholars from European and non-European countries and from different research areas.
In order to achieve the main goal of the conference, (i.e. emphasising and strengthening the interdisciplinary character and activities of archaeometallurgy), we are trying to bring together specialists interested in this topic, to exchange data, and update the knowledge on metallurgical activity in Europe from a global archaeometallurgical perspective. Very welcome contributions are those informing on recently excavated sites, results of analyses of related finds, new analytical methods, results of the latest comparative studies, as well as new trends and results in experimental archaeometallurgy.
The sessions of the conference cover the following main themes:
- Archaeometallurgy of copper and copper based alloys (case studies, latest results)
- Archaeometallurgy of iron (case studies, latest results)
- Archaeometallurgy of precious metals and other non-ferrous metals (e.g. tin, lead and mercury)
- Technology transfers over space and time
- Latest experiences of related archaeometric methods and technologies
- Comparative studies
Both oral presentation and posters are welcome. Proposals should be submitted with a short abstract by using the template for abstracts (>>> download the template <<<).
The abstracts should be between 200 words and 400 long. They should contain some introductory information on the sites, objects and materials examined, a description of the aims, the techniques used and the results obtained so far, including a short interpretation. The above information is necessary in order to help referees to understand the work involved and select the papers for oral or poster presentation.
The abstracts must be submitted by 28th February 2019 as a Word document attached to an e-mail to Ez az e-mail-cím a szpemrobotok elleni védelem alatt áll. Megtekintéséhez engedélyeznie kell a JavaScript használatát.
Please note that abstracts can only be submitted in English.
Oral presentations (15 min) as well as posters (in size A0) must be prepared in English. The poster sessions will take place in a public area of the university, i.e. will be accessible to all visitors.
The abstracts of all accepted contributions will be published in a Booklet of Abstract that will be distributed to the participants at the Conference.
